At Mango Hill State Secondary College we utilise an iPad device in Year 7 – 9, and a Laptop device in Years 10 and 11, to enhance the learning in all of our classrooms. The College’s pedagogy and curriculum is specifically designed to facilitate deeper engagement in the learning process, access higher order thinking skills and accelerate student-driven learning.

All students are expected to have their BYOx Device at the College fully charged, with enough space to save class work and install apps and books for educational and classroom purposes. In using their device, all students must abide by the MHSSC Digital Learning Expectations, which can be found in the Documents quick links on the right side of this page.

Which devices can I use for BYO?

Whilst most devices will be compatible for use as a BYO device, a few precautions should be followed to ensure that your student gets the best possible experience. Using the information below, you can easily see if an iPad (Apple only, Android tablets or Chromebooks are not supported) or the laptop (Windows or Apple OSx) you already have at home will work or to have a guide when buying a new one. As of 2023, Junior Secondary (Year Level 7 – 9) students will require Apple iPads as their BYO Device of choice, in order to achieve the most compatibility with the curriculum, while Senior Secondary (Year Level 10-12) will require a Laptop (Windows or Apple Mac).

A full guide as to which device will be most suitable can be found in our BYOx Device Guide, which can be found by clicking here MHSSC BYOx Device Guide 2024.pdf

How to connect to the BYOD network?

For this to occur as quickly and as simply as possible, PDF guides have been developed for students and parent\guardians to follow at home (see below). Students who require additional support in switching over to the new BYOxLink are encouraged to visit the IT Help Window in iServices, please see below "Things to do before bringing the BYO Device to school".

iServices - IT Help Window

Generally, first and second lunch breaks (10am-10:30am and 12:55pm-1:40pm) students are able to visit the IT Help Window located in iServices opposite the printer/photocopier.

If your student requires assistance in connecting their device, then please make sure that they come to school with the following done; so that teachers and IT staff can assist them properly.

Things to do before bringing the BYO device to school

Before a BYOD device is 'On-boarded' (Connected to the College's network) using the 'Alternate Method' it is important that the device is in a state that allows it to be connected with the least number of issues.

The following is required as a bare minimum in order for the device to be connected:

All devices

  • Student know the password or passcode to unlock the device
  • Charged battery

Windows & Apple OSx devices (Laptops)
  • Have an account to install Apps
    • Must be a user type that is allowed to install applications and join networks.
      • If it does not have this, and you wish to keep the restrictions in place then please use the 'On-boarding @ Home (Preferred method)' instructions above.
  • All system and updates completed.

    iPad
  • Updated to the latest iOS
  • Not restricted - able to be connected to join networks
  • Please ensure that the 'InTune - Company Portal' app is installed prior to the device being brought to school
    • https://apps.apple.com/au/app/intune-company-portal/id719171358

Once the above has been done for your students device type, it can be brought along to the IT Help Window in iServices, and our Colleges helpful IT staff will assist your student in getting their device connected and working seamlessly between school and home.
